A 66-year-old Nashville woman suffered fatal injuries when a semi-truck crashed into her home on Oct. 8. The accident reportedly occurred in Donelson around 3:30 a.m while the woman was asleep in her bedroom.
The driver of the semi-truck, a 34-year-old man who works for a Nashville trucking company, claims that the truck, which was loaded with 40,000 pounds of pumpkins, wobbled as he traveled down the street, causing him to lose control and slam into the victim's home. The woman's husband and son were also in the house at the time of the accident, but they did not suffer any injuries.
Despite the defendant's claims, police said there was no evidence, such as tire marks from an attempt to brake, to corroborate the driver's claim of mechanical failure. Investigators were looking into whether the man fell asleep behind the wheel or if slick roads and poor weather conditions may have contributed to the accident. The driver did not appear intoxicated and complied with a request for a blood sample. No charges were filed against the man at the time of the report.
