Tennessee is experiencing a stormy winter. The rain and snow that pass through the state not only chill the air, it causes the roads and streets to frost over with ice and slate. This does not fare well for those commuting through the cities. In just a day, there have been numerous crashes.
On Wednesday, at least 26 crashes were reported by the Wilson County Emergency Management agency. The accidents occurred on Interstate 40. Mt. Juliet Police Department also responded to seven accidents on the same interstate and handled three spinout incidents that did not accrue injuries. There was a total of 50 wrecks that occurred on the roads of the county.
In Chattanooga, the same day, there were approximately 70 traffic crashes that happened. The Hamilton County authorities responded to 41 crashes, while the Tennessee Highway Patrol dealt with 31 accidents. Two major incidents occurred on Interstate 75, when a semi-truck dropped steel. Both southbound and northbound lanes needed to be closed for two hours.
Officers believe that excessive speed and lack of attention caused many of the car accidents.
