Attorney Randall L. Kinnard and our legal team at Kinnard Law have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the estate of a man who fatally stabbed his wife to death last week in Brentwood, Tennessee before being shot and killed by his father-in-law.
According to authorities, 55-year-old Jerry Allen Matthews was involved in an altercation with his 39-year-old wife Emma Teeters on the afternoon of November 20. During the altercation, Matthews stabbed Teeters, as well as her 78-year-old father Terry Teeters, who had intervened. Teeters shot and killed Matthews at the scene, Teeters was taken to a local hospital. Emma Teeters was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, but did not survive her injuries.
This case had garnered significant media coverage in the Nashville area, as it involved a family dispute just days before the Thanksgiving holiday, and because it occurred in an exclusive residential community on Governor’s Way in Brentwood. The case has warranted widespread attention and is prompting further investigation.
On Monday, November 26, 2018, Attorney Kinnard filed a civil lawsuit on behalf of the three minor children against Jerry Allen Matthews, who was the CEO of Matthews Aviation, and his estate. Although the tragic circumstances of the incident are still under investigation, authorities have confirmed Matthews did fatally attack his wife. The lawsuit seeks compensation for the profound pain and suffering, grief, and losses suffered by the children, as well as other damages.
“As a direct and proximate result of the wrongful and intentional acts of Jerry Allen Matthews, (the children) suffered mental anguish, severe emotional distress and the loss of the companionship, guidance, cooperation, love, affection, consortium and services of (their) mother,” said attorney Randall Kinnard.
